Following the postponement of the 2008 Sustainable Way Conference last October due to the financial climate affecting all industries but specifically the Built Environment, the decision was taken to adapt the format from a one-off event to a series of tailored sessions.
‘The Sustainable Way Campaign’ will consist of several monthly sessions that will cover all aspects of the term ‘Sustainability’; from best practice Waste Management to Business Survival.
The Campaign was launched on Tuesday 8th September with the presentation of the Sustainable Stars Awards (click here for list of winners) which celebrated the sustainable credentials of construction companies, organisations and individual projects within Pennine Lancashire.
The evening also included a ‘Pecha Kucha’ style debate on “Traditional Construction vs. Modern Methods of construction – which is more sustainable?” with speakers from BRE NW, Modern Masonry Alliance, Centre for Construction Innovation and Envirolink NW.
Forthcoming sessions will be on topics such as: Carbon – Measuring and minimising our impact; Materials and waste: Opportunities to improve sustainability; Energy efficiency and renewable energy: options and working examples; Business survival in the economic downturn.
